This study aims to identify and analyze the gap between the use pattern of the elderly and the supporters and the needs of them for the “silver” merchandise. The data used in this study were collected in 1998 all over the country including Seoul, Pusan, Daejoen, Daegu, Kwangju, Kangnung. The data consist of 553 elderly households and 553 supporter households. The specific objectives of this study are as follows: First, to identify the use pattern and the recognition of the “silver” products and the reasons why the elderly and the supports have not used it Second, to analyze the needs of the elderly and the supports for the “silver” products. Third, to analyze the use pattern and the needs of the elderly and the supports for the “silver” products according to four major variables. The main result are as follows: First, the percentage of consuming the “silver” products is lower than the percentage of recognizing it. Because the target of the “silver” marketing is the elderly who are sick rather than the elderly whose health conditions are good or not bad, the needs of the store which deals with the “silver” products is low. Second, the needs of the elderly for most “silver” merchandise is higher than that of the supporters. This result means that even though the supporters consume “silver” merchandise for their parents, ultimately the beneficiaries of the use will be the elderly. The results of this study proposed the implication that offer the basic data for marketing and to improve the welfare of the elderly and the supporters who take care of their parents by marking government and local community and civil enterprises participate in the field of the “silver” merchandise.
