This study aims to examine how hotel employees` job stress and job characteristics, one of environmental variants, can influence his burnout in performing his duty. It is also another goal of this study to provide strategic materials through making out preventive measures against the burnout. To accomplish the goals, a field survey was conducted on the employees` of the Deluxe hotels in Seoul area. The results of this study, based on a positive analysis, could be summarized as follows. First, the skill variety, task significance, task identity, autonomy and feedback turned out to have affirmative effects on hotel employees` job stress. Second, the autonomy and feedback turned out to have a negative effect on hotel employees` emotional exhaustion. Third, the autonomy turned out to have a negative effect on hotel employees` dehumanization. Fourth, the feedback turned out to have a negative effect on the decrease of hotel employees` sense of achievement. Fifth, hotel employee`s stress turned out to have a negative effect on his emotional exhaustion, dehumanization and the decrease of his sense of achievement.
