This study was intended to investigate the educational needs in party events targeting working professionals and pre-professionals using Borich method and IPA(importance-performance analysis). The development of competence for party planner enable to elevate an abilities of human resource in party event. A total of 192 useful survey questionnaires were collected from the party planners, party stylists and the college students who were willing to be a party planner. In order to achieve the object, the level of key competencies and the current status of key competencies were first assessed. Current status levels and importance levels were analyzed by IPA matrix and educational needs by Borich needs assessment model. As a result, the rankings of educational needs are party directing, party styling, party food, party planning and party service. Party planning was an ability that should be enhanced strengths, party styling was should be improved. Party service was an ability should be maintained current state, party directing and party food were abilities should be considered weakness. In addition, this study was investigated the difference of educational needs depending on gender, working area, educational experience of party event and whether engaged in business. The results showed that there was an difference between the educational needs of party event, these will be a help to the development of job competence and educational programs of party event. To reinforce competence of party planners and students, we should design new educational program and develope party culture and industries. More theoretical and practical discussion was provided in the conclusion section.
