21세기의 새로운 에너지 시대를 이끌 대체 에너지에 대한 관심이 생기며 시작하게 된 이 연구는 박물관, 도서관, 인터넷 등 다양한 매체를 바탕으로 풍부한 사전조사를 한 뒤 초등학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 대체 에너지에 대한 초등학생들의 인식 수준을 조사하고 대체 에너지에 대한 관심 유도와 인식 변화를 위해 다양한 소프트웨어 프로그램 중 초등학생들이 쉽게 받아들일 수 있고 자기주도 학습에 효과가 좋은 학습용 스크래치 프로그램을 개발하였다. 이후 설문을 한 번 더 하여 초등학생들의 대체 에너지에 대한 관심도가 높아졌는지를 검토하였다.
