The experience of many immigrant groups ire the U.S. is often trying and difficult, due to cultural differences arid problems such as language barriers, The case of Korean immigrants is no different, and in fact, could be viewed as even more difficult than many. This stems from not only a different language, but one from a different side of the phonetic spectrum, Secondly, Cultures which come to create a situation of relative social isolation of adult Koreans from the larger American society. Of particular concern is the experience of Korean immigrant children, since their home life is dominated by the Korean culture in general and yet they are socialized in the mores and values of the U. S, world. The purpose of the investigator was to conduct a study examining the relationship between the socioeconomic status of Korean immigrant families and the kind and degree of children`s recreational participation. In addition, the influence of the following factors was considered: (1) parental encouragement and participation, (2} the age and period of residence in the U. S. and (3) gender. The sample for this study consisted of 200 children and 200 sets of parents who completed questionnaires, Data from the questionnaires resulted in 14 empirical hypotheses which were tested by chi-Square analysis, Descriptive statestics were used to present data on demographic variables and kind and degree of children`s recreational participation. The clearest results revealed by the data, were the strong relationships between children`s participation and (a) family income, and (b) the amount of recreational equipment owned by a family. The latter variable can be seen as also representative of socioeconomic status since purchases of such equipment is dependent on what a family can afford. The majority of other tests had weak of mixed results, of mast significance was the lack of a strong relationship between parental encouragement and participation and children`s recreational participation,
