Report Errors
There are inevitably new words in human language that are constantly changing. The processing of these new words is a difficult problem for natural language processing technologies that are developed based on existing language behaviors. This study analyzes the use characteristics of the new words by collecting the usage statistics of the words in the news articles. To quantitatively analyze them, usage amount, persistency, and burstiness are proposed as analytical measures. Through a series of experiments, we examine how usage changes since the first use of the new word, whether there is a difference in the amount of use of the general new word and new terminology in special domain, how the persistency or use burstiness of the new word affects the usage amount, and how often the new word and its description are used together.
