Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present scientific ways of preventing sarcopenia and stress urinary incontinence through comparing and analyzing effects of sarcopenia, body circumference and voiding symptoms, by applying Oov vs Mat Pilates exercise methods to middle-aged women with stress urinary incontinence.
Method: The study was conducted on pre-menopausal woman aged 40-50 years with stress urinary incontinence in City S. For the study, total of 40 women participated in the Oov pilates group (OPEG=14), Mat pilates group (MPEG=13) and for the control group (CG=13) with incontinence symptoms. Oov and mat pilates exercise was implemented, respectively, for 60 minutes, 3 times a week, for 8 weeks before measuring voiding symptom questionnaire, Skeletal muscle indx (SMI) and body circumference before and after the exercise.
Results: The results are shown below. First, the difference (p<.01) between SMM groups and the difference (p<.01) in times was significant, and the group that performed OPGE increased more than that of MPEG. SMI revealed a significant figure difference (p<.01) between times and interaction (p<.01). Second, the waist circumference represented a significant figure (p<.001) interaction between times and between groups, whereas a hip circumference showed a significant difference (p<.01) between times only. The thigh circumference represented significant figures in difference and interaction between times (p<.01). Besides, WHR and WTR represented significant figures in difference and interaction between times (p<.01). Third, voiding symptoms showed significant figures all between groups, between times and interaction between groups (p<.001).
Conclusion: Based on the above results, it is considered that Oov and mat pilates exercises are both effective for middle aged women with stress urinary incontinence. However, when applying props which can strengthen trunk movement and pelvic floor muscle like Oov pilates, it is considered to prevent sarcopenia and bring more positive effects on voiding symptoms.
