Today, with the emphasis in the functional aspect of clothes, various materials are being developed, and extensive research being conducted regarding the image evaluation of clothes. Among these, image difference arising from a change in color or pattern of the fabric is gaining in importance. This is because the influence of the fabric is a large constituent of clothes. The material, size, and shape of the fabric vary, and the visual sensibility may differ depending on the difference. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the volume and the color of the knitted fabric. A total of 46 stimuli were collected in 16 different colors by dividing into 3 different intervals (1 × 1, 2 × 2, 3 × 3). Experimental results showed that the larger the gap, the larger the illusion of volume, while the color did not affect bulkiness significantly. This study will help understand, use, and utilize color and material within the clothing industry.
