Color in landscaping plays an important role in understanding the vibe of the location and understanding the city, therefore the selection of color criteria for such landscape creation is essential for a unique and attractive urban landscape.
Local governments are attempting continuous efforts to establish a positive urban image through the selection of landscape color guidelines. However, when establishing and operating the landscape color guidelines, the lack of the differentiation between cities, and the discrepancies between the colors and the cities cause problems with the guidelines’ standardization and continuation. Through the analysis of problems and status’ of cities that have already been established through the domestic urban landscape color planning, this study will seek for alternative improvements for a more specific plan. The main areas of study are seven locations, which includes Seoul, Busan, Jeju, and Daejeon. The research will put traditional literature and the urban landscape color planning into consideration, analyzing the application of symbolic colors and commonly used colors, and considering physical and non-physical environments to analyze specific problems and draw out points of improvements for each factors. We expect that this study will be used as an objective data in establishing urban landscape color planning of local governments.
