More luxurious automobiles today aim to provide consumers with more convenient lighting that fuse well with their interior design, as well as more diverse behavior-based lighting, but there is a dearth of research that reflect emotion, preference, and visual characteristics of the consumers. Among these, the mirror lamp is a major functional interior light in automobiles, allowing users to view the mirror when it is dark. Such lamps are installed mainly on sun visors, and in recent days, some companies are installing lamps on the mirror itself. Mirror lamps basically light up the face of users and naturally express colors, but glares causing discomfort can be created, depending on the installed location and the amount of light.
As such, the current study aims to analyze the relationship between color rendering and glare, depending on the relative color temperature and luminance of mirror lamps installed in commercially sold automobiles. The results are as follows: First, among a total of 11 vehicles, there were none that satisfied the standards for color rendering and glare level in mirror lamps. Second, higher color rendering was considered to be better, with 3200K to 3500K being ideal, regardless of the type of light source. Third, an ideal glare level was from 0 to 1; for LED lighting, luminance of 97000cd/m2 or below, and for light bulbs, luminance of 190000cd/m2 was found to be ideal.
