The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of himo training and kinesio taping therapy on the reduction of shoulder joint pain and the improvement in muscular function in elderly women. The elderly female subjects having shoulder joint pain were selected at the I region, and divided into a himo group (n=15), a taping group (n=15), and a control group (n=17). The treatments were conducted twice per week over an twelve week period. After that, we analyzed various changes such as visual analogue scale, shoulder joint muscular strength, and shoulder joint flexibility. The results of this study are summarized below. First, a statistically significant reduction in visual analogue scale was founded after four-week treatment for in Himo group, and eight-week for the taping group. Second, a statistically significant variation in muscle strength test was not found both in himo and taping group during the twelve-week treatment. Third, a statistically significant variation in flexibility was founded only himo group. Specifically, the improvement in flexion and internal rotation was found after four-week treatment, and the improvement in extension, abduction, external roation. Overall, this study showed that Himo training and Kinesio taping therapy can improve the function of musculoskeletal system for elderly women. These treatments are also expected to show positive effect for preventing the disorder associated with musculokeletal system for the elderly women.
