The purpose of this research was to compare and analyze the spatial characteristics of apartment unit plans according to the different types of Housing Supply through the arrangement of kitchen and dining area which are, among other spaces in apartment unit, affected by socio-cultural changes of Korea the most. As a result of precedent researches, it was found Korean apartments had been successfully adjusted to Korean life style. However, the researches were based only upon the most common unit plans for the middle-class who had been the main subjects of apartments. Since apartments have become the most common housing type regardless of social classes, it is necessary to study apartments not only of the majority but also of the minority. This research on the kitchen and dining area of different types of Housing Supply found they had different spatial hierarchies, and the reasons were in the location of each area, the number of bays, and the outdoor adjacency. The meanings of different hierarchies of kitchen and dining area are found in socio-cultural aspects. The factors of spatial characteristics differing in Housing Supply types would help evaluating suitability with the residential features of each Housing Supply type and optimizing the quality of living space design for every social class.
