With the dawning of the 4<SUP>th</SUP> industrial revolution, artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), big data, 3D printing, robots, and drones have already become core technologies. These core technologies have forced every industry to develop a sustainable growth strategy. The pulp and paper industry is one of the industries most severely impacted by these new core technologies. Over the last few decades, the pulp and paper industry has continuously declined. Many companies have disappeared or have merged with other companies. Printed materials such magazine, books, and newspapers have been continuously replaced by digital printing. To maintain a sustainable growth in the 4<SUP>th</SUP> industrial revolution, a new paradigm is necessary. The new paradigm is premised on the idea that human resources should be the most important asset. Without creative people, an organization’s survival may be extremely challenged. The new paradigm challenges the conventional wisdoms. It asks for multidimensional- and lateral-, not verticalthinking. It also encourages contrarian thinking which has been proved to play a pivotal role of a sustainable growth of an organization. Lastly, to have a sustainable growth in the pulp & paper industry, the following have been suggested: visionary leadership; ownership; and a constructive destruction strategy.
