Dual-inverter fed open end winding transformer (OEW-DI) topology can be an alternative scheme of the traditional parallel inverter topology used in high power medium-voltage (MV) grid-connected systems, due to its advantage of lower output voltage harmonics, which can reduce the requirement of the filter inductance. LCL filter is commonly used in this topology because of the attenuation and size tradeoff. Besides, the leakage inductance of the transformer in such systems is a relative large value and should be used properly, but none of the existing paper has noticed this. Therefore, this paper proposes a new arrangement of LCL filter for the OEW-DI topology, in which the transformer leakage inductance is set as the inverter-side inductor, the shunt capacitor and the grid-side inductor are set at the secondary side of the MV transformer. The overall inductance of the recommend filter can save a lot than the existing filters. The comparative analysis and discussions regarding to the existing LCL filter and the proposed one are presented and evaluated through simulation on a 1 MW dual-three-level inverter system and experiment on a 30kW dual-three-level inverter prototype.
