This study analyzed the factors that have an influence on cyber verbal bullying and experiences among elementary school students through the mixed methods research. It conducted a quantitative analysis on the Korea Youth Panel Survey Data and a qualitative analysis based on the in-depth interviews with the expert groups on elementary school students. The results of this study were as follows. First, elementary school students’ experiences of verbal abuse in reality were likely to have an influence on their experiences of cyber verbal bullying. Second, aggression was one of predictors of the cyber verbal bullying. Moreover, the students tended to express aggression to the assailant or the weaker student. Third, there was a meaningful connection between the association with delinquent peers and the students’ perpetrating cyber bullying. This implied that elementary school students perpetrating cyber verbal bullying were likely to have the desire to show off their power in cyber space and to admire the people who have force, thereby imitating the behaviors of the strong without consideration. Meanwhile, whereas elementary school students did not consider the current level of cyber bullying as a serious issue, the expert groups took it more seriously than the students. Therefore, this study suggested the school social workers’ active engagement in consultation activities with victims and perpetrators of cyber verbal bullying at both personal and group level; the character education; the student-led campaigns promoting a healthy cyber culture; and the development of a training manual on cyber bullying.
