This study explores the craft of measurement used to solve the problems that Socrates faced. First, it examines how Socrates' craft of measurement was revealed in Plato's Protagoras. Then, in relation the power of appearance, the function and role of the craft of measurement were explored in two aspects. One is exploring how the power of appearance worked in terms of proximity, which was the same as it differs according to the distance, and how the craft of measurement disables the power of appearance. The other is to explore the relationship between the power of appearance and craft of measurement in terms of desire and passion based on how the power of appearance generally relates to the psychological function of people’s desires and passions of the people. This process shows how the craft of measurement plays a decisive role in recognizing, inferring, and judging moral problems. It also contributes to the understanding of the nature of desires and to their control and strengthening.
