The essential goal of national early childhood education and care is to guarantee the happiness of young children and to improve the overall quality of their lives. This study compares and analyzes the national curriculums of early childhood education and care in the countries of New Zealand, Sweden, England, Japan, France, and South Korea in terms of their systems, goals, teaching/learning methods, and evaluation criteria and processes. The study results show that the national curriculum of early childhood education and care in each country is directed toward developing young children’s key competencies in relation with elementary and middle school education with the understanding that early childhood education and care is the starting point of lifelong education. With the goal of educating young children’s growth and development holistically,, the national curricula of all six countries contain content covering health, societal life, art, language, and investigative domains. And they emphasize the importance of playing and the interactions between young children and their teachers as viable teaching/learning methods. The study also finds that educational evaluations and assessment are shifting from teacher-centered to learner-centered.
