Report Errors
The change of design subjects implied in the space shows the transition of design trend, so that understanding this change in very important for design practice as well as for the education of space design. The purpose of the study is to analyze the latest design trends through the design themes that are contained in the recent space design works of competition. This study conducts a research on the subjects of award-winning works of the Korea Space Design Competition over the last three years and the Korea Interior Design Competition over the last two years. The results of the study show that the mostly adopted design theme in the recent space design is ‘eco-friendly’, followed by ‘healing’, ‘communication’, ‘traditional’, ‘sustainability’, ‘environmental issues’, ‘family’, ‘community’, ‘personal growth’, ‘leisure and culture’, etc. Design trends that analyzed through those design themes are ‘trends of traditional design’, ‘eco-design trends’, ‘well-being design trends’, and, ‘social design trends’. The results of this study have a significance as a useful data for space designers and students to understand and anticipate the design theme for the future, and as a practical foundation for designing creative space.
