Yung Wing is called the first man who studied in America or the father of international student by Chinese. Further, nowadays he is called a patriot. But it has to consider what he was a patriot even if he contributed to modernization of China. Because his patriotism is a vague.
He was from the 1820s to the 1910s at confusion of modern China and has dual citizenship in the United States and China, and was located in the middle of tradition and changing.
Although his data are few, he had written autobiography in 1909.
So that we can described for his activities and thought. By the way, this book was translated into Chinese in 1915 what was titled "西學東漸記". The translation is to be treated specially, because what is the translation of an autobiography always include some intention of translators when author's a subjective point of view get through the filter of objective point of view. Other historical record about Yung Wing is in “世載堂雜憶” what was written by liu cheng-yu. This material is worth reference why it was full record by other person's view.
So in this paper try to attempt an analysis of patriotism by Yung Wing's vision, the translator's vision, and Other's vision that have shown that the three data taking into account the characteristics of the text in each of the writers. And through the transformation of an individual's memory, the interpretation of remember made by others, and the operation of remember made by a third party through memories, I elucidate Yung Wing's identity.
