This study examines the relationship of Han-si and Si-jo of Jeong Hoon in 17th centiry on the viewpoint of diglossia. The results are as follows.
First, it deals with Han-si and Si-jo of thematic areas, the subject area of Si-jo are more spacious. Other diglossic writers have shown the subjects of Jeong Hun’s Si-jo mainly in Han-si. Second, the culture of responding poetry appears in the Si-jo in the case of Jeong-Hoon. Third, the nature and himself are dealt in Han-si, people and social problem in Si-jo. Especially, the people in Jeong Hoon’s Sijo are the real and contemporary persons, not abstract or fictional. Fourth, the form of Hansi is broken and Han-si have tendency to singing song and Si-jo formal poetry. Fifth, Jeong Hoon acknowledges Si-jo itself, so he translated Si-jo into Han-si saving the three lines form.
In conclusion, we can say that Jeong Hoon is the important poet showing the changing process of the position of Han-si and Si-jo in the history of poetry and song in Korea.
