The background of this study stemmed from a critical awareness that studies concerning the entry into the Korean market by Japanese corporations, specifically, studies that might be referred to practically by Japanese corporations, appeared too low in number to date. Last year, the researcher completed a paper relative to the current liquor market of Korea upon the request of one Japanese survey institute. While proceeding with that survey, the researcher came to focus on the potential that the expansion of the boom in Japanese food and Japanese liquor in Korea may lead to the greater expansion of Japanese Restaurants businesses in the future. Currently, Japan is in a difficult business environment for domestic corporations owing to the influence of a long economic recession. Korea may be an effective market for them to get out of such a situation. For this reason, aiming to be of help as basic local information for Japanese corporations who have prepared expansion in particular consideration of penetration into the Korean market, this study reviews the marketability of Japanese Restaurants businesses in Korea in the future. In detail, first, the study considers the background of the boom in Japanese food and Japanese liquor in Korea. Next, the study takes a look at an overview of the Korean restaurants market, and confirms the entry of multi‐national restaurant companies, particularly, Japanese restaurant companies. Finally, the study reviews the trend in the Korean liquor market, the liquor consumption propensity of Koreans, and the transition of the Japanese‐style Izakaya in Korea.
