Accumulation amounts of polychlorinated biphenyls in crucian carp (Carassius auratus) were determined at 19 sites along four major rivers, five small rivers and a wetland in Korea. Twenty-seven congeners including tri- to hepta-chlorinated biphenyls were detected. Concentrations of individual congeners ranged from below the detection limit (<DL) to 3.4 ng/g wet weight. ΣPCBs at each sampling site ranged from <DL to 30 ng/g wet weight. The PCB 153, 138, 110 and 101 were the principal congeners and penta- and hexa-chlorinated biphenyls comprised of the major homologs.
