The object of this study is related to adolescent sex education and sexual consciousness. And it is designed to understand the current status of sexual education and demographic characteristics of the study participants and also to figure out how demographic characteristics and sex education variables influence their sexual consciousness. The study was conducted targeting 120 students from 3 high schools located in Jeonbuk Iksan regions with the experts’ advice. The participant body is consisted of the 2nd grade male students and the 1st grade female students from regular academic high school and the 2nd grade female students and the 1st grade female & male students from specialized vocational high school. The survey was done from May 20 2015 to May 24 2015. In terms of research tool, we have prepared 15 questionnaires made with sexual consciousness measures, including 3 sub-categories which are “sexual consciousness”, “gender role attitude”, and “sex equality consciousness”. However, after validity review, we have selected 7 questionnaires. We have used Likert method with 5-step scales for each question. It starts with “I strongly disagree” (1 point), “I disagree” (2 points), “neutral” (3 points), “I agree” (4 points), and ends up with “I strongly agree” (5 points). We consider that the higher the score of each participant is, the more he/she is sexually conscious. The conclusions of our study are as follow: First, among the social demographic variables, the type of school has the significant relationship with overall sexual consciousness statistically. Especially, students from specialized vocational high school are found to have higher sexually consciousness than those from academic high school. Second, the method of sex education was found to be the most significant factor in sexual consciousness statistically. In specific, project-oriented education has improved overall sexual consciousness compared to the lectures, audiovisual education, and group activity. As a result, we found that the method of sex education is the most significant factor which is statistically influential to sexual consciousness. However, the problem is that the school and students only care about the subjects of the entrance examination, resulting in reluctance in other matters such as sex education. It seems that the school and the family should be more interested in sex education issues in order to establish right sexual consciousness for our children.
