This paper reviews pragmatics studies of the auxiliary verbs of giving and receiving in Japanese(授受補助動詞). There are two viewpoints about the functions of auxiliary verbs of giving and receiving. First, on the view of Basic function, it is focus on movement of things and actions. Second, on the view of derived function, the favor(恩恵) and the profit(利益) were mainly researched. However, there is various meaning functions are provided for derived function of auxiliary verbs of giving and receiving. It explained the meaning function of Favor and Profit(恩恵と利益), the meaning function of Nuisance and Disadvantage(迷惑と不利益), neutral meaning function(中立的意味機能) separately. It is the expressions that is selected by speaker. Therefore, I think the derived function to be a modality utterance in this study. This paper is a description of the meaning functions of derived function for auxiliary verbs of giving and receiving through the example analysis.
