The paper will explore the rational approach towards the problems stemming from Korea becoming an increasingly multi-cultural society. One significant issues of today is an increase in inter-marriage between Koreans and members of other ethnic communities that often come from a diverse cultural, historical and cultural backgrounds. Most of them want to integrate into Korean society, but they often have to face major difficulties concerning language, customs and different life circumstances in Korea. Particularly interesting are the experiences of Christian communities of Gwangju and JeollaNamdo, which are facing today a significant influx of migrants from other countries. My research is to explore the boundaries of tolerance and inclusion, since especially these old communities which experienced persecution and intolerance in the past, should open their hearts to the newcomers. Korean churches and Christians need to accept migrant inter-marriage men and women as new members of the local churches. In this paper, I would like to analyse the current situation of migrant inter-marriage men and women in Gwangju and JeollaNamdo, as well as the roles of the local churches. Investigating the role of the local church for migrant inter-marriage men and women is important in the light of theological and biblical perspective. If Korean Christians recognize all human beings as members of God’s family without discriminations and prejudices, they should accept migrant inter-marriage men and women as church members.
