Drawing upon the recent attention to EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and ESP (English for Specific Purposes) research and education using corpora, the current research explores the lexical patterns of English for nuclear science and engineering. In addition to the linguistic features of specific English register, in S. Korea, the discourse around the discipline has been a critical news topic both politically and diplomatically. For this reason, the current study examines the characteristics of the nuclear science English in research articles. From the keyword analysis and semantic prosody observation, it is found that the nuclear science and engineering English words can be characterized by idiosyncratic keyword distribution and the behavior with its collocates, yielding unexpected semantic prosody ‘aura’. It is expected that the results of the study can be a useful source for understanding the nuclear science and engineering English stylistics. Further, the results can be utilized useful resources for developing an ESP education programs in a given discipline.
