The aim of this paper is to understand the key arguments and concepts of critical discourse analysis, the latest new trend in discourse analysis, and to examine within them a new perspective and direction for linguistics study. The trend of critical discourse analysis that became fully established through the 1980s and 1990s is steadily expanding its influence even after the 2000s as related major works are being introduced in Korean society. Consequently this has brought changes in the perspective on language and language research trend and has resulted in substantial research output. In particular, interest in social issues revealed through language and theory and methodology seeking to find answers for them require attention in Korean society where interest in and demand for humanistic linguistics are growing. The perspective and attitude of linguistics study that displays critical discourse analysis will be helpful in ruminating about the social significance of language and considering the direction of its study and practice.
