Many countries in the world have suffered from natural disasters caused by global warming. To prevent or reduce CO2 emissions became a formidable task to be addressed by the world. Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has been a avenue to achieve such objective. In this regard, Indonesia draws attention because it has a fertile ground for CDM projects due to its abundant natural resources and vast rain forests. Since 2005, the Indonesian government has enthusiastically facilitated foreign firms’ investment on CDM projects because those projects can boost local economy and may solve environmental problems. Moreover, those projects can also mitigate the durable regional gap between Java and non-Java areas because most CDM projects are located outside Java Islands. This tendency is proved by the fact that most Korean firms’s CDM investments in Indonesia are concentrated in Sumatra and Kalimantan Islands. As the cases of many developing countries in the world, Indonesia have suffered from environmental degradation, lost diversity, and disruption of local people’s livelihood. In solving such problems, CDM projects can be the best means due to the inability of the Indonesian government. Thus the government will continuously provide various facilities and incentives to foreign firms to boost their investments on CDM projects.
