The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceived level of satisfaction and effectiveness of online web-based courses as described by four TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) graduate students. The guiding research question for this study was as follows: Have students found online web-based graduate courses satisfying and effectively meeting their educational needs? Four graduate students participated in a focus group and completed a focus group questionnaire and in-depth interviews. From eighty significant statements, seven themes emerged. The themes that were identified in the data analysis were as follows: 1) lack of instructor contact, 2) extreme workload found in this online milieu, 3) ability to communicate with colleagues, 4) flexibility, 5) more substantial learning, 6) enjoyment of medium, and finally 7) successful online student characteristics. The apparent conclusion drawn from the results was simply that education in the future would favor a student-centered online model than a classroom based learning model.
