A Study of the Tradition of Pondok Pesantren : An Islamic Education in Indonesia This study will look into the characters of pondok pesantren, a traditional Islam school, and several factors which is formed by these close relationship between religious leaders and students in pondok pesantren. Traditionally, Pondok Pesant- ren maintained a close relationship between the religious leader and student who learns Islam education. The influence of religion leaders are absolute for the reason that they play an important role as a messenger who teaches the doctrines of Allah. The student obeys their teachers' precepts. They follow without any doubt because they believe that the teachings of these religion leaders come from Allah. The head of Pondok Pesantren is called 'Kyai'. Generally, 'santri' is the term used for the class who faithfully follows the Islam teaching. A student who learns Islamic education at pesantren is also called 'santri'. Furthermore, their relationship is strengthened as an insoluble connection between the teacher and student. Their relationship is influenced by several factors like education, affection, economy, and culture. In turn their relationship will be strengthened and would also affect people's life in terms of religion, politics, economics, culture etc.  As a results, Islams unites the community more than any other religion.  Most Islamic organizations are composed of pondok pesantren. These organizations support pesantren as the foundation of traditional Islamic education, which builds a strong and continuous teacher-students relationship.
