A Study on New Media and Possibilities ofSocial Change in the Gulf Region- Focused on the Usage of Internet in the Saudi Arabia,Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman -Cho He-Sun, Le Won-Sam, Kim Hyo-Jeong, Eum Ik-RanThe aim of the article is to explore new media ndposibilities of social change in the Gulf region, focusing on theusage of Internet among the Youth in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,Qatar, and Oman. The article raises the question whether thenew technique brings ocial change or the society selects th enew technique and its way of usage within the xisting socialvalue and structure. Posibilities of social change are dis cusedin the folowing four points: first, religious and culturalidentity;second, subculture and generation gap; third, clas afili ation;fourth, women's ocial status. The study selects four countriesin the Gulf region and those include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,Qatar, and Oman. The method of the study mainly relies oninterviewing in the Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, conductedfor two weks during the Winter vacation in 207. As forKuwait, online research based on CMC (computer-mediatedcomunication) is used. The target groups of the study are th euniversity students who are mostly exposed Internet.
