In this study, we want to find how the sociocultural background affects the hair style change by exploring the factors and characteristics related to the punk hair trend reflecting the expression of the distinctive individuality in the Korean society rooted on the Confucian spiritual culture.
To do this, first, the background and internal significance of the emergence of punk hair in the 70’s Britain and U. S.
are analyzed. Then, the external characteristics of the 80’s punk style are explored. Finally, the factors contributing toward the emergence of punk hair in the early 21st century Korea are analyzed, followed by the formal and internal significant analysis. For the study, the literature on the general fashion history were referred, as well as the pictorial of the fashion magazines.
The results revealed that the value of the today’s punk hair is different from that of the original punk hair style created by the punk of the 70’s. In the early 21st century’s modern society, various hair styles are created and live together with the effect of the life styles that values individual sense and characteristics and the continuous studies of the hair designers,and the life cycle of the hair styles are getting shorter.
