Recently community policing is often regarded as one of the most significant trends in the history of policing. The focus is on the police officer who works closely with people and their problems. There is limited information about applying the MBTI to police administration students or using it in police work of Korea. The purpose of this study is to find out personality types of university students majoring in police administration, to identify dominant type and the individual learning style, and to suggest the implications focused on police officers' qualities required in the age of community policing. The findings of this study are as follows. The type distribution of police administration students in the present study demonstrates clear preferences for sensing over intuition and for judging over perceiving. Among the sixteen MBTI types, the two frequent types are ISTJ and ESFJ. The most frequent dominant type is sensing dominant one, and in learning styles the two most prevalent are SF and ST. In general, the personality type distribution of this study resembles that of previous researches. These findings can help field instructors and police managers to increase their effectiveness in education and in police work.
