As the world reached the modern society, along with the rapid changes in living environment due to the westernization and industrialization, there is an acute increase in the number of people suffering from Atopic Dermatitis. According to the National Health Nutrition Survey by the Korea Ministry of Health and Welfare, 1 out of 5 children aged 1-11 suffered from atopic dermatitis during the year 2006-2008. This study was carried out to know the effects of lotion containing Chamaecyparis obtusa Endlicher (LCOE) on the atopic infant's skin. The LCOE was applied to the atopic skin of infants aged 36-60 months twice a day for 28 days, and skin conditions including levels of oil and moisture, roughness, pore size and distribution, wrinkle, pigmentation and sebum were examined. The LCOE significantly improved skin moisture (p<0.01), roughness (p<0.05), and pigmentation (p<0.05). The LCOE also improved the skin's pore size and distribution and also removed wrinkle, pigmentation and sebum contents. Therefore, it is considered that the Chamaecyparis obtusa Endlicher was effective on the improvement of atopic infant's skin.
