This study is aimed to examine the mediated effects of emotional intelligence in relationship of emotional labor and job stress which consulting nutritionists have in the service industry.
In the study, correlation analysis and three-step mediated regression analysis which was proposed by Baron and Kenny(1986) are used with emotional labor as an independent variable and job stress as a dependent variable. As a result, the relationship of nutritional consultant emotional labor and job stress has positive correlation, and the frequency of expressions of emotional labor has negative correlation with job stress. In addition, emotional expression norms caution and emotional disharmony have positive correlation. Therefore, since subordinated variables of emotional intelligence, that is, understanding of self-emotion, sensitivity control, and sensitivity use have negative correlation with job stress, controling these variables can be effective on the management of job stress. Of emotional intelligence, emotional expression norms caution and emotional disharmony have positive effects. According to the result of multiple regression analysis, emotional intelligence effects on job stress meaningfully, and at the same time the frequency of expressions of emotional labor is less effective than first step, which shows partial mediation effects of emotional intelligence in relationship with emotional labor and job stress. In mediated effects of emotional intelligence, sensitivity control, and sensitivity use as subordinated variables have mediated effects. Based on the results of the study, it is necessary for consulting nutritionists to reinforce sensitivity and emotional training and to learn several cases for increasing emotional intelligence.
