저자들은 식도암의 5-FU와 시스플라틴을 사용한 항암 방사선 치료에서 유발된 항이뇨 호르몬 부적절 분비 증후군의증례를 국내에서 처음으로 보고하는 바이다. 본 증례에서와같이 시스플라틴의 반복 사용이 이러한 증후군을 유발 또는악화시킬 수 있다고 생각된다. 그러므로 시스플라틴을 처음사용한 후에 저나트륨 혈증이 발생하지 않더라도 다음 치료후 암에 대한 치료와 아울러 항이뇨 부적절 분비 증후군의발생 가능성에 대한 주의 및 대비가 요구된다. 나아가 식도암 자체가 이러한 증후군을 유발시킬 수 있는지에 대해서도연구가 필요하다.
