Psychosocial Factors and Marital Satisfaction Hye-Jung Jee (Ajou University) This study, involving 93 married couples, measured the relationship between marital satisfaction and several psychosocial factors, including depression, self-esteem, social support, and marital communication patterns. The researchers found that the level of academic achievement varied directly with positive measures of psychosocial factors and marital satisfaction. Social support was the most important variable affecting marital satisfaction of both partners; other variables had differential effects on the marital satisfaction of husbands and wives. Couples with the highest marital satisfaction had the highest self-esteem, felt the most support from society, and were the most likely of all the couples to use mutual constructive communication.
