Since the passage of Korea-China Free Trade Agreement, the status of Chinese law is gradually rising. In light of such development, universities and graduate schools in Korea have opened and is offering courses on Chinese law. Out of 25 law schools in Korea, 8 law schools have law professors specialized in Chinese law, and both theoretical courses as well as practical trainings on Chinese law are offered by these institutions. There is a wide variety of courses related to Chinese law, not a few of which are conducted in Chinese language. The textbooks and course materials on Chinese law are mostly prepared by the law professor. For a period of three years since 2009, the number of enrolled students interested in Chinese law has increased, and more students have registered for the relevant courses. However, after 2012 when the bar exam has been first introduced, the number of students enrolled in Chinese law related courses has seen a decline. At those law schools offering Chinese law courses, students are provided with opportunities to intern at the legal institutions during their summer and winter vacations. This is due to the reason that not only theoretical lectures on Chinese law but also practical field trainings are necessary for the purposes of fostering future Chinese law experts. In order to train talented Chinese law experts, it would be necessary to improve the teaching methods and processes for Chinese law courses and to further promote mutual educational effects by co-organizing field training programs.
