Secondary predication is established between a secondary predicate and its subject that functions as a subject or a direct object of the matrix clause. It is generally accepted that depictive secondary predicates cannot be predicated of indirect objects. To explain this phenomenon, it is assumed that the noun included in prepositional phrase cannot be a subject of secondary predicate because the subject cannot c-command its predicate. This study aims to analyze secondary predication constructions in which indirect objects in Spanish allow secondary predicates. I will focus on the derivation of body part noun and its possessor since secondary predicate can be predicated of this possessor that appears as an indirect object. I propose that ditransitive verb selects a prepositional phrase of indirect object, while body part noun selects the possessor which is merged inside the possessee DP. I claim that secondary predicate is derived on separate derivational domain apart from main clause's derivation, and secondary predicate and its subject(i.e., possessor) form an independent c-command domain. I provide a secondary predication construction that consists of an argument of relational noun and its predicate to support the analysis proposed in this paper.
