The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between perception of spiritual needs of patients, spiritual well-being, and spiritual nursing intervention among nurses in order to provide basic information in improving spiritual nursing intervention and developing educational programs for spiritual nursing. The study was a descriptive correlational research. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 199 nurses working in two university hospitals and one general hospital in B city from August 1 to August 30, 2011. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe’s test and Pearson's correlation coefficients. The score of nurses' perception of spiritual needs of patients was 3.65 out of 5. Spiritual well-being in nurses was 3.42 out of 5 and the score of spiritual nursing intervention was 2.19 out of 4. There were significant positive correlations between perception of spiritual needs of patients, spiritual well-being, and spiritual nursing intervention among nurses. The findings suggest that it is needed to develop effective interventions to improve perception of spiritual needs of patients, spiritual well-being and among nurses so that they could be better equipped to provide sufficient spiritual nursing intervention. More studies are required to identify other factors for spiritual nursing intervention.
