This study aims to understand how politicians and Facebook users employed various speech acts during the period of three televised presidential debates in Korea. From content analyses the study found that Jae In Moon, the trailing candidate, used more constatives, directives, and interrogatives than Geun Hye Park, the leading candidate. By contrast, Park used more commissives. In addition, the feminine style of debate communication was identified through the use of expressives by Park, a female candidate. Visitors to each candidate’s fanpage also used speech acts differently. Moon’s fanpage visitors used more directives, commissives, and quotations than Park’s visitors, whereas Park’s visitors used more expressives.
