Traditional Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) determines the relative efficiency using cross-section data, but window analysis uses panel data to determine the efficiency. Analysis with cross-section data provides information for the overall time period, but with panel data provides large details of performance analysis over a period of time. The study analyzed efficiencies and periodical efficiency changes of global twelve shipping firms with DEA and DEA/Window from 2004 to 2008. According to the results from DEA-CCR model, NYK, OOCL, MOL and RCL showed higher efficiencies than other shipping firms. In window analysis, the total efficiency mean of shipping firms dropped, while showing a tendency to improve with Window 4 (2007-2008). In these context, it's clear that shipping firms had made efforts to elevate their management efficiencies through restructuring like scale reduction.
