The purpose of this study was to examine determinants influencing adventure tourism experiences for white-water rafting participants. Fifty-seven female and sixty-four male public white-water participants were invited to participate in this study. Model fit statistics in this study support a direct relationship between independent variables (e.g., intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy) and dependent variables (cognitive and affective experience). Results from this study support evidence that the cognitive component might have a more important factor than the affective component of overall adventure experiences. Additionally, the study showed that the cognitive experience associated with affective experience could be examined empirically. Implications of this study extend the previous works by expanding the operational definition of adventure experience beyond the interaction of perceived risk and perceived competence. Future study needs to explore linkages between self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and adventure experiences with other subjects.
