It has been more than half a century since Korea was devided as two separate states. In the meantime, Republic of Korea and Democratic People's Republic of Korea have become too much estranged with each other to accept the counterpart in terms of all the systems such as state, economy and society. Nevertheless the attitudes toward history in both states are based on nationalism. The present day discussions about the unification of the two Koreas seem to be based on this kind of naive nationalism. No matter how the nation is one and single, interpretations on the nature of the nation is so diverse that the conception of history based on nationalism is not desirable at all. In view of the current world changing rapidly and diverging itself in various way, what is needed more than even is a flexible and relativistic view of history.
