Korea's FTA network covers more than 60% of the global economic geography through its continuous expansion of trade agreements. Korea first concluded FTAs with major global economic blocs including the US, EU and ASEAN, and is now working to prepare for negotiations more trade agreements with country like Africa. Recently, Africa has been experiencing a new scramble with the China, US, EU and Japan actively competing for access to Africa’s natural resources. As a latecomer, Korea lags far behind its competitors in all respects including aid budget, aid method, trade volume, and diplomatic influence. The purpose of this study is to examine the utilization of new official development assistance for implementation of FTA in Africa. Trade can be a powerful engine for economic growth, poverty reduction and sustainable development. Especially, Aid for trade is leveraging development assistance to help countries tap into the power of markets, connect to new centers of economic wealth and, in turn, become the new growth poles in the global economy. Africa nations are eager to learn about Korea's economic development experience and saemaul movement(new village). These are Korea's unique strength upon which we can build mutual trust and form a win & win partnership with africa.
