This paper explores William Blake's prophetic poem, Visions of the Daughters of Albion, in regards to the three perspectives addressed in the title. After reading the poem from the vantage point of African slavery and female slavery respectively, this paper examines the poem through a mystical/epistemological perspective based on Evelyn Underhill's five states of the growth of mystic consciousness--innocence, experience, revolution, silence, and regained innocence--to get closer to what Blake tries to say through the experience that Oothoon goes through. Analyzing the major characters of the poem, Oothoon, Theotormon, and Bromion, this paper compares and examines their attitudes towards each other and tries to offer reasons for their limited perceptions about their own identities. Arguing that Oothoon, the rape victim and female protagonist, eventually achieves her higher multifold vision, overcoming her limited, enforced corporeal perception restricted by male-dominated social and religious oppressions, this paper attempts to reveal Blake's epistemological philosophy through which he wants to free us from our view of the world and ourselves.
