The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effect of environmental factors by existence of playground on PAPS(physical activity promotion system) results in 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. The participants for this study were 2150 students, composed of 638 non-existence of playground school students and 1512 participated existence of playground school students. The measure of physique(height and weight) and physical fitness(body mass index: BMI, physical efficiency index: PEI, grip strength, trunk flexion, standing long jump, 50m run, physical fitness level) were analyzed between the existence of playground group and the non-existence of playground group in elementary school students. The test data were analyzed in independent t-test, using the Statistical Package for SPSS version 18.0 for Windows. And the alpha level of p<.05 was set for all tests of significance. The result of this study were as follows; the existence of playground school students had significantly lower BMI than did the non-existence of playground school students for 5th and 6th grade boys. The existence of playground school students had significantly higher PEI, trunk flexion, and standing longjump and lower 50m run and physical fitness level than did the non-existence of playground school students for all boys and girls. No significant differences in height and weight were found between two groups.
