ABSTRACT Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a fibro-osseous lesion that characteristically affects the jaw bones of multi-quadrant radiopaque cementum-like masses. FCOD is a rare condition affecting jaw bones and is diagnosed principally by its characteristic clinico-radiological features. As the condition remains asymptomatic, no surgical treatment is required. However, surgical trauma in the form of a biopsy, tooth extraction, or poor fitting dentures can lead to a chronically draining site that does not heal and can progress to osteomyelitis. Treatment of osteomyelitis depends on appropriate antibiotic therapy and often requires surgical removal of infected and necrotic tissue. This paper reports a rare case of FCOD affecting mandible with osteomyelitis.
