This article aims to reconsider the optimism of the poetics of Pushkin, well known by the expression, the ‘sun of Russian poetry.’ After the death of Pushkin in the 19th century, conventional interpretations of his poetry paid more attention to his shining form and optimistic view of life than the content and tragedy of life. It thus followed that Pushkin's work was criticized for a perceived lack of philosophy and lack of attention to the dark side of life. These opinions, by degrees, lost sway, but are still alive. Against this backdrop, this paper attempts an inductive investigation of Pushkin’s world view by analyzing his poetry. We deeply explore Pushkin’s philosophy, represented by optimism and pessimism through the keywords of ‘feast of life’ and ‘desert’ of life. As a consequence, the noisy banquet symbolized by ‘feast of life’ yields its position to a more serious and sober attitude of life in the latter part of the poet’s life. But the more important point here is not to track the divided world view, but to realize its equal value in Pushkin’s poetry.
