This article describes the general characteristics of the course of Russian studies, the definition of its goals, objectives and characteristics. The objectives of this subject are to create a certain amount of regional studies and knowledge of the vocabulary, as well as the formation of intercultural competence that meets the modern communicative approach to learning the Russian language. Among the features of course, in particular, that should be highlighted: a comprehensive, integrative particular importance to the actual situation (for all the importance of historical aspects) the dynamic nature of the subject and constant updating of both content and vocabulary. The most important specific objectives of Russian studies include: the formation of the students needed to learn background knowledge of the language, constant research unequal vocabulary, which reflects the peculiarities of national culture; help students in mastering the language as a communicative tool in expanding and enriching the communicative competence, and participation in shaping bicultural linguistic identity, which facilitates intercultural communication.
